MY SISTER'S EX by Cydney Rax

I recently had the priviledge of interviewing author Cydney Rax about her new up and coming novel "My Sister's Ex". This is her fourth novel set to be released August 4th 2009. She has also written three other novels which are My Daughter’s Boyfriend, My Husband’s Girlfriend, and My Best Friend and My Man. These books are must reads for fans of Urban Fiction! Here is what Cydney had to say:

Q. What is the inspiration behind the titles of your books? Is it purposely meant to expose the potential reader to the story line, or a juicy eye catching title?

A. The first title unwittingly started a bit of a trend. For the debut novel, My Daughter’s Boyfriend seemed appropriate, catchy, and alluring. When the publisher looked at my second novel, at the time the working title was My Husband’s Other Family, but my then editor, Rachel Kahan, suggested My Husband’s Girlfriend.I laughed out loud and I loved the title. The trend continued for the third and fourth novels. But my fifth novel is named Brothers and Wives. I (fingers crossed) am done with titles that start with “My”. The goal was to create a following with those types of titles and love triangle concepts and I believe that’s been accomplished.

Q. Have you experienced any of the situations you have written about in your books personally?

A. Let me clarify the response by stating none of my novels are autobiographical. However, for each book, if there are, say, twenty scenes, one of them may be loosely based on something that happened in real life. I’ve been through lot in my life, and more than anything, I think some the characters’ emotions are based on what I’ve survived. My characters probably have some of my emotions (scary thought huh?) But then again, characters are just that. The more I write a story, the more the characters take on a life of their own. I read scenes and am shocked by some of the things they say and do.

Q. Knowing your characters are always exposed from a mental aspect, will this book explore the same degree psychological perspectives?

A. My Sister’s Ex seems a little bit different from the others in that it widely focuses on sister or family dynamics. I really enjoyed that aspect. And yes, the sisters are in a situation where they struggle mentally and emotionally.

Q. All of your books seem to be based on relationships with complicated story lines that question a person’s reaction when faced with difficult situations.
Can we expect more books of this nature in terms of your future writings?

A.Well, God willing, I hope to have more novels in the marketplace. And the ideas that come to me certainly explore relationships on a challenging level. I think it’s because I personally am fascinated with relationships (especially male-female). I think few of us have the answer to what makes relationships totally successful, and because we’re always on a quest to try and make things work, the topic of relationships will always be an interest, and there’s always something to write about.

Q. What would you like to share with your faithful readers about your next book “My sister’s ex”?

A.Well, I trust the readers will add My Sister’s Ex to their summer reading list. I am craving to know what they think about this particular book which explores the themes of family, revenge, sisterhood, and female empowerment. I wonder if the readers will have the same reaction that I have when I read the book. I laugh. I get upset. I think about certain things that the characters say and do. And I love how it ends. I believe readers will be pleased with this novel, they will relate to at least one character, and it should make for an excellent book club discussion.

I would like to personally thank Cydney for sending me an advance copy of the book which I found extremely hard to put down! However I won't spoil it for everyone! I can assure you, all of her books are very intriguing and will leave you craving for more! If you would like to pre-order "My sister's Ex" please visit:
